One Arizona couple has a lot to celebrate about. They claimed millions after buying the $473 million jackpot-winning ticket for the April 27 Powerball drawing.

It was a history-making jackpot for the Arizona Lottery. No one in the Grand Canyon State has ever hit a winning ticket that huge.

However, the game continues. After a reset, the Powerball jackpot is starting to grow once again. Who will Lady Luck shine on next?

Anonymous AZ couple comes forward to claim their prize

According to Arizona Lottery officials, a couple from Gilbert, Arizona, bought the jackpot-winning ticket from a QuikTrip gas station near Gilbert and Warner Roads on April 26.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 11, 36, 61, 62, 68 and the power ball was 4. The Power Play multiplier was 2x. The jackpot was $473.1 million. It is the largest jackpot won on a single ticket in Arizona history.

“As the Powerball rolled over the past few weeks, we saw many winners from all over the state,” said Gregg Edgar, Executive Director of the Arizona Lottery. “We are thrilled for this winning couple who came forward to claim this historic jackpot, and we are even happier about how this big win will impact Arizona.”

The couple, who asked for permanent anonymity, chose a cash payment and received $283.3 million. Edgar congratulated the couple.

“The Arizona Lottery is all about making dreams come true and doing good in our community,” said Edgar.

Furthermore, the QuikTrip gas station, where the couple purchased the ticket, is receiving a $50,000 bonus from the Arizona Lottery.

Powerball jackpot climbing once again

According to Powerball officials, players have about a 1 in 25 chance of winning a prize. However, the odds of winning the jackpot skyrocket to about 1 in 292.2 million.

This was the third time someone has hit the Powerball jackpot this year. The jackpot now sits at $83 million, with the cash value being $47.6 million. That is a long way from being $473 million.

However, it may not take long to reach historic levels once again. Lottery officials say the jackpot increases with strong ticket sales.

There are three chances at becoming a multimillionaire with Powerball each week. The next drawing is on Saturday, May 13.
